Helping organizations reach their potential...
Wherever you are, I can be there with you. Wherever you go, we can get there together.

Seminars / Workshops
This list includes the majority of seminars and workshops that Del Maxfield has prepared. All have been taught on multiple occasions locally, nationally and internationally. You'll find a mixture of management, organizational and development subjects that can be used in holistic fund raising clinics and continuum courses.
Any or all of them can be and most likely should be modified for participant contextualization. Many of the subjects can be assimilated for effectiveness or the needs of the audience. Most are in power point format and many have handouts versions.
Direct Marketing, “The Heart & Soul of Revenue”
This seminar covers the basics of overall direct marketing fund raising. It
emphasizes the need for balanced Acquisition and cultivation and the need
to keep both going. It provides the basic for implementing a direct marketing
program.
The Strategy of Newsletters, “Letting them Know”
Most organizations don’t take seriously the whole strategy of Newsletters.
This is looked at in all areas: content, frequency, package, distribution,
and what it means in terms of revenue. Telling the community what your organization
is doing and how to make it a profitable method of fund raising.
Middle Donor Cultivation, The Transition Zone
The goal here is to stress to the development staff the importance of focusing
on the donor who is showing interest by increasing their gift level and on
who is a middle donor as well as how this area is really a transitional zone
for major donors.
Major Donor Development, “Thinking Big”
For Foundations & Corporations
This seminar is a modified version of the major gift seminar taught years ago by Mr. Paul Edwards and the Russ Reid Co. I received permission from both to rewrite it for simplified application for mission/non-profit staff. It approaches the organizations donor file methodically, and demonstrates how to identify, research and cultivate the prospective major donor.
Planned Giving, “Future Security”
Planned giving is an area that few non-profits have developed. Through cooperation
with Philanthrocorp Inc. this seminar was created to show the scope of Planned
Giving (legacy gifts) and the various ways it can be approached in regards
to dollars, staff and outsourcing.
Other Methods:
The idea here is to introduce other ways that organizations become involved in raising funds, but to keep it in perspective as it relates to time, size, goals, and whether or not it is a primary fund raising goal or an integral part of the development plan.
Developing the Fund Raising Department, “The Infrastructure”
Few people can address this issue with experience and with application to a holistic program in mind or can they discuss at length, if need be, as to growth dynamics. The seminar is simple and to the point. This seminar differs from the longer more detailed “Developing Your Organization” which goes into far more detail of overall organizational development that includes fund raising (development).
Development Department Support Functions, “The Machinery”
Here the idea is to show organizations that the fund raising department doesn’t operate in a vacuum. It talks about the need to staff, when to staff and what type of staff is needed to build a development department support system, such as, data processors (Batching, processing, data entry, etc.), data base management, the receipting system, daily deposits, etc.
The Important role of Public Awareness
Another area that tends to be a “step-child” but plays an important
role in the overall development strategy long term success. Detail is not
a part of this seminar, but the need for and what role it plays and how is
shown in lay terms.
Elements of successful of Leadership
This is the seminar that I taught at Russ Reid a year or two or three ago.
With permission of Ted Engstrom some years ago, I used some of his material
and put together and supervision seminar. This type of teaching is seriously
lacking in the Mission arena. For that matter is lacking in the NPO arena.
Long Range planning “Strategic Planning Made Simple”
Some time ago I became a student of strategic planning. After five books on
the subject I became convinced much of the material was over the head of most
of us, so I took the common denominators of the material and developed a program
that non-profit leaders, but probably more important, that the staff could
understand. This seminar walks through the creation of a long term plan.
Developing a Development Plan
Few organizations take this task serious, but know they need to have a plan.
The idea here is to walk the class through developing a simple working document
that can be used as a blueprint for developing the development effort of their
organization. It deals with budgets, staffing, development growth, and timelines.
The Primary Reasons Non-profits Fail (or get into trouble)
Research shows there are six primary reasons that non-profits fail. These reasons are examined and discussed as to how they surface in a organization and how to prevent them. This is a popular seminar among non-profit leaders.
Understanding Non-profit organizational Structure
NPO organizational dynamic is fairly simple. Most leaders have not been introduced to it in a manner that they can get a handle on it. This seminar looks at the structure and how it can be used to help plan and direct an organization.
Developing a Non-profit Organization/Managing Organizational Growth
Managing the growth of an organization can be difficult under the best of circumstances. This seminar walks through the growth process and the dynamics associated with this growth. It addresses structure, staffing, budgeting, if and when to expand, the Board’s role.
Other Seminars: These are other seminars that have been taught over the last couple of years
Addtl Seminars: These are other seminars that have been taught in specialized situations
